  • ENVIRONMENT STATUS OF BRICK INDUSTRY IN AND AROUND DIMORIA TRIBAL BELT OF ASSAM WITH RESPECT TO ITS SOCIO-ECONOMIC CONDITION Bricks are one of the most important Building material used in India. The Indian Brick kiln industry, which is the second largest producer in the world. Brick making is a traditional unorganised industry generally confined to rural and peri-urban. The availability of good fertile alluvial soils in North east India makes the fringe areas to be dotted with Brick Kilns. This has become one of the major forces in bringing about land use/ land cover changes around cities. In this paper an attempt has been made to examine the impact of Brick kilns on soil water and air. Small and medium sized traditional Brick Kilns are growing in cities of developing countries around the globe supplying the urban population with cheap construction materials.
